Authorities in Glynn County have found the body of missing 6-year-old Christopher Barrios. Chief Matthew Doering of the Glynn County Police Department made the announcement at a news conference in Brunswick just before 5pm this afternoon.
Christopher was last seen alive on March 8 in the mobile home park in Brunswick where he lived.
Friday, police arrested neighbor George Edenfield, a convicted sex offender, on parole violation charges. Since, Edenfield's mother and father and a family friend have been arrested for obstruction.
The body was found off Canal Road not far from Glynco Airport. Chief Doering would not comment in depth, other than to say it was "not buried as we were told."
He confirmed police consider those arrested to be involved in the case, which he said is being treated as a homicide.
A massive search has been underway involving police, instructors from the nearby Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, and many volunteers for a week now.
The sad news hit the community hard after Chief Doering informed Christopher's family about 4pm. Chief Doering told us, "This is the hardest I've ever had to do."
WTOC will continue to follow the story and have more tonight on THE News at 11.
