The search for a missing autistic teenager has ended tragically. Thirteen-year-old Thy Nguyen's body was found in a drainage pond not far from his Whitemarsh Island home.
The boy was reported missing about 5pm Saturday. Police and firefighters, along with neighborhood volunteers, were all searching the area looking for the little boy. The searchers concentrated on a drainage lagoon where witnesses reported seeing the boy wading in the water.
About 3:45pm Sunday, the Savannah-Chatham police dive team located the body.
"The fact that we had three witnesses identify this same body of water is what led us to put the dive team there," said Chief Michael Berkow of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. "It's the only place we sent the dive team. Obviously the body will be taken for an autopsy."
It only took divers about 35 minutes to locate the missing boy's body after beginning their search.
More than 100 volunteers joined with Savannah-Chatham police in the search.
