An Athens man remains in critical condition after an accident with a police car killed his son Tuesday morning.
EMTs flew William Wilcox to Savannah from I-16 near Metter. The crash killed his son, 33-year-old Milton Wilcox.
Georgia State Patrol troopers say the son wasn't wearing a seatbelt when Jeremiah Fenn, a police officer from Albany, rear-ended the Wilcox's SUV, causing it to overturn several times.
Officer Fenn told troopers he veered his attention away from the road momentarily and when he looked up, he collided with the SUV.
He was on his way to participate in Chatham County's Operation Rolling Thunder to help reduce driving fatalities.
Troopers at Post 45 in Statesboro say no charges against the officer involved have been filed, but the case is still under investigation.
