Kiowa Warrior Helicopters Stop Off in Savannah

Thirty helicopters stopped off in Savannah Thursday, on their way through to Iraq. The Kiowa Warrior reconnaissance choppers from Fort Drum refueled at Hunter Army Airfield.

They're being loaded into cargo ships in a few days, and heading to war, to complement Apaches in fighting insurgents.

"Because of its size, it's much smaller than the Apache, it has the ability to operate in a complex terrain," explained Col. Dan Ball. "Like an urban environment."

The Kiowa Warriors have advanced optical equipment, and specialize in finding the enemy, and relaying that information to soldiers on the ground or in the air.
