Fair Tax Proponents Rallying for Changes

A lot of people were down to the wire filing their taxes Tuesday night. If some people have their way, you wouldn't have to worry about those deadlines ever again.

Proponents of the so-called fair tax were at the post office in Bluffton, trying to get their idea out to people mailing their taxes.

The fair tax would get rid of the IRS entirely, and replace it with a sales tax, meaning nobody would have to file returns ever again.

"We give this literature out, and then as they stand inside in line, they're reading the literature about the fair tax, talking with each other about it," explained Karen Heitman, president of the Bluffton and Sun City Fair Tax Club. "And then when they come out, if they have any questions we can answer those for them. But they seem to be receiving it very well."

Heitman says the Bluffton and Sun City Fair Tax Club has more than 100 members.
