No city knows 18-wheeler truck traffic like Garden City.  With the Georgia Ports Authority as their neighbor, Garden City Police see thousands of big rigs travel through town every day.

Now the police department will have two officers, certified by the state, to make sure the trucks meet all the safety standards.

Police Chief David Lyons said, "I think it's going to make it safer, all you have to do is pull up to any one of these red lights out here and sit for five minutes and you'll see a guy pull up beside you in a clunker truck with bald tires and duct taped air hose and head lights hanging out and those are just the things you can see."

Once Chief Lyons selects two of his officers for the job, they will have to complete several months of training before they start inspecting big rigs.
