Savannah-Chatham police have a suspect in custody this morning wanted for threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend. Police say the man punched his fist through the front window of a house on West Victory Drive about midnight where his ex-girlfriend lives.

She tells police he pulled a gun and held it to her head while telling her he was going to kill her. She says he even pulled the trigger, but the gun failed to go off.

The man ran out of the house and the woman called police. They brought out a K-9 unit, which tracked the suspect to a lane about a block away where he was arrested after a brief chase.

Officers then found the gun they believed was used in the attack in a bucket near where the man was hiding. He was taken to Memorial Health for treatment of cuts to his hands. From there he will be taken to the Chatham County jail charged with aggravated assault.

Police believe the gun may be fake.
