Students and Teachers Recognized at Awards Banquet

Hundreds of students, teachers, and parents turned out Thursday night for the tenth annual Awards of Excellence banquet presented by the Savannah Morning News at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort.

This year, WTOC was a proud sponsor of  the event, which recognizes two special seniors from each high school in Chatham and several surrounding counties in Georgia and South Carolina.

The event also allowed each student to recognize the teacher who inspired them to strive for excellence. Most of the students at this event had to overcome some incredible challenges to reach this level of academic success.

It was also my pleasure to serve as a presenter of these awards.

Three students, Savannah Arts Academy's Jessica Spencer, Heather Williams of Bradwell Institute and Hope Saxon of Providence Christian School, were selected as the grand prize winners because of the success they achieved despite overwhelming problems they faced at home.
