Rather than spend their time in a classroom or at the library several Savannah College of Art and Design students put on their flip flops and headed to the beach.

For the annual Sand Arts Festival on Tybee Island. Students spent all afternoon making sand castles, or sand different types of sculptures. Contestants had only until three o'clock to complete their masterpiece. Andres Scott organizer of the event, says the students have so much fun and their ideas are amazing.

"This is very serious business it is a team project they are working against the clock and it's a process but a whole lot of fun and they take pride in their work and participation," said Scott.

It's not just fun there's three- thousand dollars in prizes up for grabs.
