Search for Elderly SC Woman Continues

Searchers have wrapped up their third day of looking for an elderly South Carolina woman with still no sign of her. Bertha Wheeler is 82 years old and has Alzheimer's Disease. No one has seen her since she vanished on Tuesday from her home in Point South, Jasper County, South Carolina.

Police spent today searching for her by helicopter. They also brought in bloodhounds to track her scent on the ground. Officers and sheriff's deputies covered a five mile area around her home. They say she also may have left the area with someone. Deputies will search again by helicopter tomorrow.

Wheeler's family has been watching police near the search area. They continue to hope she'll be found safe.

"We feel that she is still alive and she's somewhere out there," said her cousin, Bertie Riley. "If anyone at all sees her, please, please just contact this family or the Jasper County Sheriff's Department."

Bertha Wheeler is about 5 feet six inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds. She has a medium complexion and wears glasses. If you have any information about where she is, call the Jasper County Sheriff's Office at (843) 726-7519.
