NOAA Weather Radio Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME)
Specific Area Message Encoding, or S.A.M.E. allow you to program a special type weather alert radio to receive all warnings for only the counties or county you select. In other words, if you live in Chatham County and only want to be informed about warnings for Chatham County, with a S.A.M.E. weather radio, you can program the code for Chatham County (013051) into your special radio and only those warning for Chatham County will be alerted from your radio. Any warning for any other county would be ignored (unless, of course, you program those counties into the radio).
Additional information concerning the National Weather Service NOAA Weather Radio for our area can be found at this link: NOAA WEATHER RADIO INFORMATION
The following list of counties give the S.A.M.E code number for that county, the location of the National Weather Service Transmitter, the radio frequency and the power wattage of the transmitter. Please read the instructions included with your radio as to how to enter this data into your S.A.M.E. weather alert radio.
