Wildfire Forces Road Closures in Bryan County

A fire, which was contained on Tuesday, has flared back up in Pembroke. Firefighters are out on the scene this afternoon battling the flames.

Thick smoke is in the air

The fire has forced the closure of Highway 119 off of I-16 to Pembroke, and 280 from 204 into Pembroke as well.

Drivers are advised to find alternate routes.

The Savannah Chapter of the American Red Cross is providing canteen service to firefighters working a wildfire located at Hwy 204 & 280 in Pembroke. "We received a request for assistance from the Bryan County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) on Thursday afternoon, and responded by sending an ERV (emergency response vehicle) and disaster volunteers to the scene," said John Wright, Director of Emergency Services with the Savannah Chapter. We have also been asked to "stand-by" in case it becomes necessary to open a shelter. There are 35 Bryan County firefighters working to contain and extinguish this fire.
