CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The names of the nine firefighters who died fighting a furniture store fire in Charleston last week will be put on the names of all the city's fire trucks.
That's what chief Rusty Thomas said today at the funeral for one of the fallen firefighters.
The funeral for firefighter Melvin Champaign was held at a church on James Island. During the service dozens of city firefighters waved their white uniform caps in the air as the congegation waved white handkerchiefs while singing the spiritual "I'll Fly Away."
Funerals for eight of the nine have been held since Friday. The funeral for the ninth, Engineer Mark Kelsey, will be held tomorrow in Washington, Indiana.
