The Secretary of the Navy visited the Low Country today to meet with community leaders and talk with local marines and recruits at Parris Island. See Top Naval Official Visits Low Country. During his visit, he also took time out to honor a special Beaufort Marine.
The Secretary personally awarded Gunnery Sgt. Adan Morones, the Bronze Star medal with combat distinguishing devise for his heroic acts while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
An award this explosive ordinance disposal technician, humbly accepted. "It's an honor, I don't feel I did anything special, I was just doing my part," said Gunnery Sgt. Morones.
During his time in Iraq, Gunnery Sgt. Mornones disarmed numerous improvised explosive devices and led marines out of those areas safely.
