Owner Seeks Lost Therapy Dog

A Savannah woman needs your help in finding a loved one, her dog Mikey. However, Mikey isn't just an ordinary dog; he is a therapy dog and touches patient's lives every day all across the Coastal Empire.

"If someone has him, I hope they bring him back because he needs to come home, he has work to do," said Mikey's owner, Sally Westerfield.

On a normal day, Mikey visits patients in hospitals, bringing joy to their lives. Now he's missing and Westerfield is hoping someone knows where he is. "We just love him so dearly."

Sunday was the last time he was seen. "I took off his harness so I could bathe him," said Westerfield. "After that he decided he was going to go outside. He went out the doggie door around 8am, by 8:30am he hadn't come back."

Immediately she started looking, posting flyers, hoping someone had seen him. Now Westerfield and her other dog Bowinkle are just left to wait. "He goes from room to room looking for him, just crying," Westerfield said about Bowinkle.

She believes Mikey may be nearby. "I think someone saw him without his identification and thought he might be a stray and picked him up and took him home."

Mikey is not a stray. Westerfield says his home is with her and the many patients he helps every day. "Just watching the joy he brings, it just touches your heart. I wish he was here so he could continue to do that."

It's this joy that makes him being gone even harder to handle. "I think about the people that are missing out by him not being there to comfort them."

Anyone with information about Mikey's whereabouts can call Sally Westerfield at 912.596.2222.

Mikey is microchiped and there is a reward for his return.
