Red Cross Offers "Pint for Pint"

Summer is not only a busy travel time, it is one of the most critical times of the year for the blood supply. The American Red Cross says blood donations drop during the summer when many donors are on vacation. Unfortunately, the need for blood stays constant. To help, the American Red Cross is offering a "pint for pint." From July 9 - July 13, American Red Cross Blood Centers in Georgia will give you a free pint of Blue Bell Ice Cream or a coupon for a free pint when you donate a pint of blood.

There are 14 blood donor centers in Georgia. Seven are located outside the Metro Atlanta area:

Albany Donor Center, 1515 Dawson Road, Albany

Athens Donor Center, Clarke Crossing Shopping Center, 3525 Atlanta Hwy, Athens

Columbus Donor Center, 7490 Veterans Parkway, Columbus

Gainesville Donor Center, 311 Jesse Jewell Parkway SW, Ste. 102, Gainesville

Macon Donor Center, 3755 Bloomfield Road, Ste. 12B, Macon

Savannah Donor Center, 25 Tibet Avenue, Savannah

Valdosta Donor Center, 2517 Bemiss Road, Ste. A, Valdosta

The American Red Cross says most healthy people age 17 and older, who weight at least 110 pounds are eligible to donate. To learn more about blood drives in your area or for more information, call the American Red Cross Blood Center at 1-800-GIVE-LIFE or go to www.redcrossblood.org

Memorial Day weekend is in full effect, which means that law enforcement is out in full force. The Department of Natural Resources is also stressing safety throughout the weekend.  Officers say that they'll be cracking down on the usual charges, such as those not wearing seatbelts, or drinking and driving. But they are also on the hunt for anyone who is distracted while driving.  "Well I checked the jail when I left a few minutes ago and we have openings," s...More >>
