It's a 22 year old record, set back in 1985 by Shelbie Benson. Benson swam a 29.14 in the 50 meter freestyle at the Savannah city swim meet.

But as they say records are made to be broken.

And if anyone was to do it, it'd be this 12 year old swimming phenom, Patricia Forrester.

On Sunday at Daffin Park, Patricia had the fastest time coming into the race and her eyes, or in this case, her goggles, were set on the prize.

And mission accomplished, Forrester beat the record by swimming 28.99 setting a new record.

She was thrilled to achieve her goal.  "It feels really good," she says, "great actually, I was nervous on the block, when I did it I was realy really happy."
