Albert Pujols walked following Schumaker's homer and Juan Encarnacion followed with a single, knocking out Yates.

Rolen hit his fifth homer off Oscar Villarreal, a drive over the left field fence.

The Cardinals had tied it at 2 in the eighth when Pujols hit his 22nd home run, a solo shot off reliever Rafael Soriano.

St. Louis got within 2-1 in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Encarnacion.
