A new building means better protection for Marines and Sailors in Beaufort.

Today, the ribbon was cut at Marine Corps Air Station Beafort's new fire house. The $5 million facility will replace their old building built in the 1970s.

Marines with the Air Station's Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting say the new facility has up-graded features and living quarters and will help them better respond to any aircraft mishap at the station.

"Moving over here has given us a better reaction time so we can proceed to an emergency a lot faster and more safely because of the position we are in now," said Master Sgt. Phillip Wiltse.

The new facility is now located right next to the flight line.
