You've probably heard the saying, "Don't forget the little people." Thirteen-year-old Javonna Williams has taken these words to heart this summer by helping out with the children at St. Matthew's Daycare Center.
"I didn't have anything else to do, and I just didn't want to sit home and be bored," said Williams.
For three days a week, four hours a day, this Mercer Middle School honor role student assists the daycare teachers in any way she can, whether it's by playing with the children or teaching them how to put a puzzle together.
And this is special to her because nine years ago, she sat in the same little chairs.
"She has always been a smart, intelligent young lady," said daycare director Rose White. "When she graduated from here, she has always come back to say hello, to be a part of St. Matthew's Daycare Center."
And this may be good career training for Javonna, since she sees her future involving children.
"I want to be an obstetrician/gynecologist," said Williams.
So for her volunteerism this summer, giving back to a place that has helped her succeed, Javonna Williams is this week's WTOC Top Teen.
