The newest pool found with mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus was in the Carver Heights area, between Highways 17, 80 and I-516. This is the second location in the county to have evidence of West Nile virus activity. Just last month, a group of infected mosquitoes in Garden City also tested positive for the disease. Health officials say people all over the Coastal Empire need to be diligent about protecting themselves. "The mosquitoes and their prey often move from area to area, so there is no one central area that should be concerned. We should all be on guard to protect ourselves," said epidemiologist Robert Thornton.
