A mega blood drive was held all over the Coastal Empire, sponsored by Rotary clubs in Savannah, Pooler and Effingham County. The organizations came together to host the event, calling it Rotary to the Rescue.
Group leaders say they recognize the need and wanted to help. Right now, O positive and O negative blood supplies are down to less than a one day supply. "There's an old saying,' blood is like a parachute. If it's not there when you need it, odds are you're never going to need it again.' So we need to have the inventory on hand before any emergencies happen," said American Red Cross coastal district manager Dean Smith.
If you missed Tuesday's drives, don't worry, you can always go to the American Red Cross blood donor center Monday through Saturday to give the gift of life.
