COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina safety Emmanuel Cook has been arrested on a gun charge and suspended from the university.
A police report states the 19-year-old Cook is charged with illegal possession of a pistol. Cook and 21-year-old James Gore the Third were arrested by University of South Carolina police last night at a parking lot near campus dorms.
Cook is a sophomore from Riviera Beach, Florida, and played in ten games last year. He started five of them. He had 47 tackles last season, including five behind the line of scrimmage. He was named to the all-Southeastern Conference freshman team.
The athletic department says Cook was suspended from the university because of an arrest involving a weapon. Coach Steve Spurrier is expected to talk about the situation after practice this evening.
This incident comes on the heels of starting quarterback Blake Mitchell and two others being suspended for the season opener earlier in the week.
