Hundreds of little leaguers and their families spent a day on the diamond to help one of their own. A dozen teams, parents and coaches gathered in Metter on Saturday for a very special baseball tournament. All the proceeds benefit 12 year old Allen Kea, who's recovering from cancer surgery.

Allen's team from last summer hosted the benefit baseball bash. Over the past year, Allen's dealt with chemotherapy and radiation. Teams came from as far away as Hazlehurst and Baxley to take part. Organizers said kids should appreciate the chance to play every day.

"They've got the chance to be out here and play. Win or lose, they've got the sun shining out here and they can get on the field and play ball," said Gade Cliett, who helped organize the event, "while that kid's got to have a good day just to come out here and watch them."

They're still counting the money to see how much they raised. If you would like to help, you can make a donation to the Allen Kea account at the Queensborough National Bank & Trust Co., 24-28 North Broad St., Metter, Georgia 30439. The bank's phone number is: (912) 685-4000.
