As the old cliché goes offense wins games, defense wins championships, that is the mantra for this years effingham county football squad, with a young offense, the rebels are going to rely on a veteran defense to win ball games.

Coach Jack Webb says, "On offense we'll be young, we hope to gel by mid season and have a strong offense heading into the last half of the season. We return 8 starters on defense, they'll have to carry us."

Josh Kight, anchors the defensive line, "We're young on offense, we'll have to carry them, the defense will be the biggest part of the team."

Defensive back, Raymond Hines says, "We got a lot of starters back and we really know what we are doing this year so I feel like we should be one of the best in the region."

Don't be fooled by a young offense what they lack in experience they make up for in heart and dedication.

Coach Webb adds, "We got a lot of enthusiasm and the young players are going to have to step up and play this year."

"They're feeding off of us because we're coming hard every play that makes them want to come harder too." says Kight.

This team doesn't lack motivation either, after going 7-3 last season and missing out on the playoffs, the Rebels are hungry for wins, and lots of them.

Hines says the team has a chip on it's shoulder,  "It's a lot of motivation, we got to work harder to get there."

The road to "there" begins Friday night under the lights against Richmond Academy.
