BALTIMORE (AP) - Running back Chad Simpson had 142 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 27 carries tonight as Morgan State beat visiting Savannah State, 47-7, in the season opener.
Wide receiver Roderick Wolfe finished the game with five receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown, a score that capped a 23-point second quarter outburst for the Bears. During that span, John Skeete connected on a 38-yard field goal, linebacker Bryan Wilson returned an interception 23 yards for a touchdown and fullback Courtney Anderson had a one-yard scoring run for Morgan. None of the scoring drives took more than three minutes.
The Tigers had three turnovers and gained just 140 yards in total offense, including 15 yards during the first two quarters. Savannah quarterbacks JaCorey Kilcrease and Greg McCrary combined to complete nine of 23 passes for 111 yards and three interceptions. Wide receiver Isaiah Osborne broke up the shutout with a 45-yard touchdown reception from Kilcrease with 8:37 remaining.
