DHEC Officials Encouraging Flu Vaccinations

Have you gotten your flu shot this season? While some are getting their vaccinations, officials with the Department of Health and Environmental Control in the Low Country say they're seeing less than half the response they've received in the past.

Since the flu causes nearly 36,000 deaths in the US every year, health officials are hoping more people will get vaccinated.

"It does concern us that numbers are lower and we want to make sure people realize that the flu is a deadly disease and something that is easily preventable," said DHEC official Nick Davidson. "It's really a simple step that someone can take to enable them not to be sick with the flu and keep our entire population healthier."

DHEC is offering a flu clinic tomorrow from nine until three at the Green Street Gym in Beaufort and one on Thursday at the Jasper County Health Department in Ridgeland from 9am until 3:15pm. The cost is $25. Vaccinations for patients with Medicare part B and Medicaid are free.

Coastal Carolina Medical Center is also providing a flu clinic this Thursday in Ridgeland from 4:30pm to 6pm at the Ridgeland Town Hall. The immunization is $20 or free to medicare patients.
