Katrina Wilcox has been living out her dream of being a teacher for eight years now at East Broad Elementary School.
She used to be a stay at home mom. "I was raising a family and once my children were in school, then I went back to school to become a teacher," said Wilcox.
And ever since then, she's been teaching second graders how to read, write and everything else that will help them in the years to come.
"This is a job that you really can make a difference," said Wilcox. "I really enjoy teaching the children here at East Broad. This is the best school. We have the best children. They work hard for you, and I think this is where I can be most beneficial."
And many of her students' parents say she has definitely been beneficial in their young lives.
"Mrs. Wilcox has a private demeanor. She doesn't talk loud, but she's very direct and just very in tune with her students," said colleague Patricia Swift Jordan, whose nephew was a student in Wilcox's class. "Always a smile, always welcoming. She always made every child in the classroom feel as if they were the only child in the classroom."
She makes them feel special, and she always wants them to remember the class motto, which is "I can do anything."
So for making her children believe they can do anything, Katrina Wilcox is this week's WTOC Top Teacher.
