It was Thanksgiving 1976. I had just given birth, five days before that most memorable day!
My brother and sister-in-law invited my family to their house for Thanksgiving. We arrived, and everthing was going great. You couldn't miss the smells of Thanksgiving: turkey, dressing, pumpkin pie, etc. I just knew it was going to be a fabulous holiday.
Well, we all sat down for dinner. Yes, sat down, but the chair I sat in totally collapsed (in-laws house - an accident or a planned embarrassing moment? You be the judge!). I felt like Goldilocks in the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
I suppose I liked Thanksgiving so much that year, that I chose to wear my dinner rather than eat it!
Guess what Santa Claus brought my in-laws for Christmas that year - a new dining room set!
The moral of the story: check out the stability of the chair BEFORE you sit down at the table this Thanksgiving (unless you would rather wear your meal than eat it)!
