Text a "Thank You" Message to Troops

Sending a text message to our troops is a simple, thoughtful way to say "thank you." Sending a text message to our troops is a simple, thoughtful way to say "thank you."

SAVANNAH, GA -- If you own a cell phone, you've probably sent or received text messages. Now, the military would like you to put your phone to good use to send a message to our troops.

Starting today, you can send a "thank you" message to our servicemen and women overseas. Just text your message to the number "89279." Pentagon officials say it will be a huge morale boost for our troops to get a message of thanks from home.

The messages will be relayed into a military computer system that troops can access. You'll even get a "thank you" message sent back to your phone from a serviceman or woman.

So far, people have sent more than 19,800 messages to our troops. To learn more, go to: www.americasupportsyou.mil
