WTOC Top Teen--Taylor Thompson

SAVANNAH, GA--What makes a Top Teen? Standing out in academics, athletics or the arts.

We found one student who excels in all those areas and so much more. Taylor Thompson of Memorial Day School is an inspiration to everyone.

He's a remarkable young man who has overcome tremendous obstacles in the last year.

Last August, his father died of a sudden heart attack, and a couple months later, Taylor tore his ACL in a football game.

It seems like a lot to deal with, but he didn't let it get him down. He is still a top student and continues to be a star on both the gridiron and the hardwood.

He told us he carries "the thought of my dad being there and watching over me and smiling at me saying, 'I knew you could do it, Son.'"

Principal Sandy Brands says she can't believe how positive Taylor is.

"Through it all, he's come back even stronger and he's got a great attitude--great in school, in the field--and has overcome a lot," said Brands. "Were really proud of him."

And that's not all. Taylor also spends every other weekend volunteering with the 100 Black Men Organization.

"Working in nursing homes and other community projects," explained Brands.

So how does this teen have time to be star both on and off the court?

"I maintain it by using my time wisely, studying after practice, before, and on the weekends," said Thompson.

Taylor Thompson's work ethic and positive attitude are what makes him a WTOC Top Teen.

"He's been an inspiration to students around here watching him overcome the battles of last year," said Brands.
