Students Send Christmas Letters to Troops in Iraq

East Broad Elementary School. East Broad Elementary School.

SAVANNAH, GA--Students at East Broad Elementary School are working on a special project for a group of solider in Iraq. Fifth graders spent the last several weeks writing letters, making Christmas cards, and collecting items for 32 soldiers stationed in Iraq.

This is the second year students at East Broad are taking part in the school's Eagles to Iraq operation. Teacher Tyhisha Kemp started the program after she lost her best friend in combat two years ago.

"The goal of the letters are--because we are doing persuasive writing--the goal is to persuade the troops not be sad, because they are way from home and families, and we are just trying to support them," said Kemp.

The letters will go out Friday morning, and the students will continue to collect items for the troops until December 12.
