FORT STEWART, GA--USO volunteers brought some Christmas cheer to some of Fort Stewart's Wounded soldiers.

They helped organize the first ever holiday get-together for the Warrior Transition Unit. These are men and woman who have medical condition or who were injured during training or in combat and cannot be deployed.

The commander of the unit, Lt. Col. Leonard Porter said, "This is an uplift I think this time of year for people who want to have their spirits uplifted. We have warriors here who are going through some difficult times right now so this is very timely."

USO volunteers handed out sandwiches and gifts to each soldier.

Dorothy Wise was one of the volunteers. "If that cheers them up God bless them," she said.

The Warrior Transition Unit is new to the Army. It was created this summer to help soldiers get back on the their feet so they can return to combat or civilian life.
