Congressman Kingston Reacts to Fort Stewart Troop Increase

US Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA Dist. 1). US Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA Dist. 1).

FORT STEWART, GA--Over the next five years 3,900 more soldiers and their families will be moving to the Coastal Empire. The army made the announcement yesterday. They are adding a combat brigade at Fort Stewart.

US Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA Dist. 1) says this says a lot about the Hinesville post.

"It says they are important in the world scene, of course the third infantry division is on their third deployment right now in Iraq and doing a great job," said Kingston. "So it's a great compliment to their abilities in terms of infrastructure. They have the buildings, the training facilities, they have the infrastructure they need to grow. This is an acknowledgement of many many years of preparation."

Kingston said it's also going to mean a lot for the local economy. "Right now, Fort Stewart brings in $2.1 billion, it's an economic engine for south coastal Georgia and this will probably move it up 300 million."
