STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) - Georgia Southern followed up a close game against defending NCAA champion Florida with an 82-51 rout of NAIA Division II Asbury Thursday night in Statesboro.
Willie Powers, whose game-tying 3-pointer was blocked just before the final buzzer Saturday in a 52-49 loss to the Gators, and Anthony Marshall led Georgia Southern in scoring against Asbury with just 11 points. Brett Johnson scored 18 and had six rebounds for Asbury, which trailed 43-19 at the half.
Georgia Southern used a 25-4 run to stretch an early 10-7 lead into a 35-11 advantage. The Eagles forced six turnovers during that period.
