Family and Supporters of Troy Davis Rally in Atlanta

Supporters rally in Atlanta. Supporters rally in Atlanta.

ATLANTA, GA--As we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a Savannah woman is using the day as a platform to defend her brother.

Today in Atlanta, supporters of Troy Davis, the Savannah man convicted of killing Savannah police office Mark McPhail in 1989, gathered in the state capital.

His sister, Martina Correia, joined with Amnesty International to stage a rally in support of Davis, who was sentenced to death but had his execution put on hold as the Supreme Court decides if evidence supports a new trial.

"Dr. King was from Atlanta, and there are so many people from so many backgrounds, and this is a human rights issue," Correia said.

The Georgia Supreme Court is expected to deliver a decision on Troy Davis' appeal for a new trial within the next few months.
