BAXLEY, GA (WTOC) - Charles Davis is teaching the Bible as literature at Appling County High School.
This subject actually comes second nature to him.
"I started full time as a preacher and I felt a call to leave my job and take a smaller church," said Davis. "And I know I couldn't feed my family at a smaller church, and I was praying for the Lord to do what he wanted me to do, and he opened the door for me to go into the classroom and the first day in there, I knew it was where I belonged. I've had a deep love for teaching ever since."
He's been teaching a variety of subjects now for 25 years, but no matter what the lesson, he is known for making his classes come to life with humor.
"Every person needs to laugh," said Davis. "Every person needs to know somebody loves them, somebody cares, and every person needs a little moment of joy in their life. And I don't care what you're teaching. There is something- some joke that will go, something that will fit in, some humorous thing of life that will bring a smile on their face. If they smile, that's a victory."
So for gaining small victories every day through his smile, Charles Davis is this week's WTOC Top Teacher.
"I'm humbled by it," he said. "But I'm deeply honored that my students found me worthy and thankful that you all found me worthy for this honor."
