SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Every week, we focus on a student who stands out, but not just in the classroom, in the community. This week we found Daria Rydzak, a St. Andrew's student who is at the top of the list academically, and spends most of her free time helping younger students.
The sophomore is a leader not just in the classroom, but also out on the soccer field. Her teachers, like Laurence Tremblay, say she takes great care in making sure she is ready for whatever challenges she faces.
"She is always prepared, always ready to give me an answer," Tremblay told us. "She is very meticulous, methodical and very comprehensive in what ever she does."
Daria wants to be an engineer some day, and feels that making the honor roll at St. Andrew's is a must.
"In the future, when you're looking to do something it's always a really good idea to have a real strong academic background," said Rydzak.
But academics aren't the only thing that makes this top teen stand out. She also finds time to work with the preschool kids, helping them make art projects.
"It's such an honor to work with those kids," she said. "It's so important you can see in their faces that they look up to you."
Her dedication and leadership are what makes Daria Rydzak a WTOC Top Teen.
"I can't think of anyone else who deserves the award more," said Tremblay.
"I was nervous when I found out, but it's really good, it's an honor," said Daria.
