PORT WENTWORTH, GA (WTOC) - Georgia Insurance and Fire Commissioner John Oxendine told WTOC that crews had recovered six bodies from the scene of the tragic blast in Port Wentworth.

That number has since been clarified by local officials, who say as of Friday afternoon, only three deaths are confirmed and three people remain missing as recovery efforts go on.

In a live interview with WTOC at noon, Oxendine told Michelle Paynter, "I've been fire commissioner for 14 years in the State of Georgia, and when I flew over that, it was one of the worst things I had ever seen."

Oxendine expressed concern over the unstable state of the structure.

Many more fire victims remain in critical condition, several at burn centers in Augusta.
