The American Red Cross Palmetto Chapter Helps Victims

Beaufort/Hampton/Jasper, SC (WTOC) - The American Red Cross Palmetto Chapter consists of behavioral health professionals, 7 therapists, a psychiatrist, 3 social workers, and a chaplain. They were standing by this morning after a representative from Savannah Red Cross asked for more help and then said the current level of mental health workers were doing fine.

Many residents have called the Palmetto Chapter asking how they can help with this incident. People can give blood to keep the blood inventory at a safe level, residents can also volunteer with the Palmetto Chapter as disaster volunteers.

The Chapter is currently recruiting disaster volunteers for its disaster response team. Volunteers who respond to disasters are required to take 4 basic level training courses which include:  Fulfilling Our Mission, Mass Care, Shelter Operations and Family Services.  Each course is three hours in length and are free, pre-registration is required.  To register, please call the Palmetto Chapter at 843.757.7437.
