BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) - Red Cross volunteers in the low country are doing their part to help out.
Volunteer coordinators at the Palmetto Chapter of the American Red Cross have been calling and emailing volunteers to make sure they're ready to go if they're needed to respond to the tragic explosion in Port Wentworth. So far, two of their mental health volunteers have responded and more than a dozen are on standby.
"We have 15 more ready to go," said volunteer, Nancy Hayes. "They are actually on standby but are ready to go when Savannah needs them and at the same time, we're getting ready to help with what we call mass care, which would be feeding."
Volunteers at the Palmetto Chapter say many of their volunteers are anxious to help out and want to do all they can.
