SAVANNAH, GA  (WTOC) - Chief Greg Long of the Port Wentworth Fire Department says crews have made "marvelous progress" in the firefighting and recovery efforts at the Imperial Sugar refinery.

He announced in a news conference about 4:20pm Tuesday that the six workers whose bodies were recovered from the scene have been identified and their families have been informed.

Two people remain missing.

Crews were able to move rail cars out of the way which had been blocking access, and two state search teams are in place. Three more fires started up today, and Chief Long anticipates extinguishing them this evening.

Officials introduced the private fire suppression company Williams Fire and Hazard Control, which will use specialized equipment to douse the flames in the silos. Today, they reconnoitered the site and say they have a plan they believe will be effective. They expect to engage the silo fires about noon tomorrow.
