SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - After many kids enjoyed their sweets on Valentines Day, the American Dental Association wanted to make sure they had their teeth cleaned.
Some kids in the Coastal Empire stopped by the Peter Brasseler Dental Center for Give Kids a Smile. It's an event that targets kids from low income families and provides them with free dental care from 30 dentists, hygienists and assistants. This event was welcomed by at least one mother of three.
"That means I get to use the money on something else," said Marcia Barnett-Croom. "I can take it and do other things like buy more school supplies or maybe pay a bill or even put a tank of gas on my car."
Nearly one in four children aged 2 to 11-years-old have untreated cavities in their baby teeth according to the CDC and here in Georgia only 37% of children enrolled in Medicaid received any dental service in 2005.
The next Give a Kids a Smile event will be held on February 29 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and then from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm at Peter Brasseler Dental Center of Union Mission.
