POOLER, GA (WTOC) - Who says people don't appreciate what America does around the world? Some at Pooler's Mighty 8th Air Force Museum received a personal thank you from a military man now serving close to home.

Commandant Marc Bouthe serves in the Belgian army, the equivalent of a major in our army. He spoke to the Mighty 8th's Historical Society and Air Force Association Tuesday evening.

At the top of his list, a very personal thank you to the Mighty 8th, and America in general for helping save his country, Belgium, from the Nazis in World War II.

Commandant Bouthe's currently assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart. He's working as chief of operations for the Marne Division as part of something similar to an exchange program, in which officers spend extended time with other nations' military to share ideas and see how things are done.

He's had a chance to see the extensive training the division goes through, and knows the importance of experience in the field before you go to war. "You have a great approach to training," he said. "Very realistic approach to training, and that is, I think, an approach like nowhere else in the world."

The commandant also mentioned the incredible support he sees from the people for the military in our area, and our nation, and he hopes we never lose that.
