SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Laura Simpson doesn't just attend Savannah Christian, she's become an integral part of the student body. Her science teacher, Bob Graham, says she's not only a leader, she goes above and beyond what her teachers ask her to do. "Prepping for exams, kids have the day off here. Prior to exams, she'll be here studying, while all the other kids are taking the day off," explained Graham.
She goes that extra mile in the classroom and on foot. Laura is the co-captain for the track and cross county running team and has won numerous awards. "Running can relieve stress after I had a hard day," Laura laughed. "I can just feel like I'm running away from my problems."
But Laura has no problem naming her favorite subject, which is science. "I like teacher's like Mr. Graham and teachers that make it fun to learn," Laura told us. "It makes it like I'm really learning things, not just memorizing things and regurgitating them, but actually taking in knowledge."
Her love for the class is also helping her focus on a career in medicine. She plans on attending a small Christian college and majoring in pre-med. She hopes to be a medical missionary after that. But no matter how busy she is, Laura manages to keep it all in perspective. "No matter what I do, I always try and keep my church and God first," she said. "I put that in the highest position, everything else comes after that."
Her focus and drive in all areas of her life has made Laura Simpson this week's WTOC Top Teen.
