Longshoremen Hold Blood Drive For Sugar Plant Victims

GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) - The International Longshoreman's Association is donating money and organizing a blood drive for victims of the sugar plant explosion still in need.

The explosion and fire hit close to home for them. One ILA member worked at the refinery and died in the blast. Another is still hospitalized in Augusta, so they're ready to help.

"It becomes important to forget about the situation and think about the humanity part, friends and neighbors and what they are going through right now and we have a chance to help and we are going to help," Willie Seymore told us.

The blood drive is Wednesday and Thursday, from 8am until 4 pm, at the ILA offices on Main Street in Garden City.
