SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The parade here is over and the streets have cleared, but for many the celebration has just begun.
The Saint Patrick's Day of 2008 was a huge success, with over 300 entries marching through the streets of Savannah. And with every new addition to the parade, there are many things that never change.
"I'm from Savannah, I do this every year," said Stephanie Chang. "It was awesome, the Alee Temple Shriners are still here, the marching bands are still here, seems the same to me, it's tradition."
And at least from here at Smooth, it seemed like all the precautions Savannah-Chatham police and the city took helped this year's parade go off without a hitch.
"I was surprised that they had the streets blocked off earlier," said Chang. When asked do people seem more well behaved this year she replied, "I guess it depends on where you are. Right here, everyone seems very family oriented."
Overall no major problems from today's parade that lasted over four hours. But now the real test begins as revelers head to City Market and River Street to continue the celebration into the night.
I hope you all enjoyed today's highlights from the parade route. I want to thank Susan and the entire staff here at Smooth for allowing us to webcast from their coffee, smoothie and internet cafe.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
