Imperial Sugar Refinery Employees Partner With Habitat For Humanity

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Imperial sugar employees say they wanted to give back to the community that helped them in the wake of last month's deadly plant explosion.

They partnered with the Coastal Habitat for Humanity to build homes for families in need. More than 300 volunteers are helping to build two new homes.

Ben Floyd, who works at the Imperial Sugar Refinery said he just wanted to help out. "We just giving back a little helping hand because the red cross and united way helped us so much in the time of need," said Floyd.

The Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1983.  Since then, volunteers have built 96 houses in the Savannah community.
