United Way Raises Over a Million Dollars for Refinery Victims

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The United Way of the Coastal Empire has gathered over a million dollars in contributions to help victims of February's sugar refinery disaster.

Today at their annual meeting, 2008 campaign chairman Dale Critz Jr. told community leaders that support for those in need had come from every part of our community and every occupation, a perfect example of the United Way's new mission statement: Live United.

"No community in the nation understands or exemplifies live united at this moment as ours does," said Critz. "It isn't a goal in the Coastal Empire, it's an affirmation."

Also at the annual meeting, 2007 board chair Dr. Thomas Jones passed the gavel to 2008 chair Mike Kemp.

2007 campaign chairman Bert Tenenbaum was also at the meeting.
