SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Another lawsuit has been filed in connection with the sugar refinery explosion.
Shelathia Harvey was one of the eight victims who died in the explosion and fire at Imperial Sugar on February 7. His widow is now suing Savannah Foods and Industries, claiming the company owned the property where the refinery operates.
The suit also names Stokes Contracting, the company responsible for cleaning the sugar dust as a defendant.
"We think Savannah Foods and Industries had ample warning over time that their place was a dilapidated building and the dust handlers to clear out the dust was not working sufficiently well," said lawyer Mark Tate.
Imperial Sugar is named as a defendant in the lawsuit.
